To expand HCAI surveillance systems to hospitals in developing countries that do not have one at the moment
Goals
As it is important to know if the procedures in prevention and control of HCAI are performed properly, and how many specific infections particular hospital has, appropriate surveillance systems (process and outcome surveillance) should be implemented wherever it is possible
Objectives
Develop and maintain networks for sharing information, ideas, solutions to issues/problems, and other specific interest group resources.
Promote SIG candidates for committees and IFIC Board positions.
Provide a forum within IFIC to develop projects and activities.
Advocate for continuing infection prevention and control education in the surveillance area, and develop drafts of suitable materials.
Promote and support research in the surveillance area.
Develop and maintain synergistic partnerships with stakeholders in other aspects of health care. This could include global health foundations and organizations, public health, long term care, or related fields such as infection prevention in maternal-child health, etc.
Functions/Activities
To be addressed:
how to survey hand hygiene
how to prioritise surveillance in the infection control practice
how to perform post discharge surveillance
how to make surveillance easier for clinical staff
how to better use information technology
how to link surveillance with the risk management
how to group process surveillance and audit together
