Depending on their areas of professional interest, IFIC members often have unique needs for networking and information sharing. Special Interest Groups endorsed by IFIC facilitate meeting these unique needs by providing a network for sharing of information, ideas, solutions to issues/problems and other resources. Interest groups exchange information via IFICs discussion board, e-mail, and the interest group websites found in the Members Area of this website. Interest groups will offer many opportunities to meet and connect with other interest groups and with other Professionals from many countries

IFIC Construction, Design and Renovation Interest Group (SIG)
The IFIC Special Interest Group (SIG) “Design, construction and renovation” had its first meeting during the IFIC congress in Budapest in October 2007.
The SIG meets once a year during the IFIC congress. Most of work and discussion is done by e-mail contacts. Each draft is sent to all SIG members and each member can take part in preparing and discussing drafts. The final version of a paper is prepared by the author of the first draft and the chair of the SIG; acceptance by the board of IFIC is needed before publication.
Evidence based proposals are intended. But it is the explicite goal of the SIG to make practical, short and fast to read papers.
Another goal is to make differentiated recommendations for low and high income countries.

At the moment (summer 2008) the SIG has around 20 members from all over the world.
The following drafts are intended or in preparation:
- Water supply, bathrooms, showers... in hospitals
- Construction standards in emergency departments
- Construction standards of ICUs
- Endoscopy units
- Aerosol and particle transmission

Start an Interest Group
IFIC encourages members to develop interest groups as a means to disseminate and share information with others who have a similar interest, and will assist members to do this.
Interest groups communicate via IFICs discussion board, email. The members of the interest group also meet at the IFIC congress, and a meeting time and place will be provided for you.
If you would like to start an interest group, complete the application form “Start an Interest Group” and submit. Once a SIG is formed its terms of reference indicating philosophy, purpose structure and function will be completed using the same template.
