IFIC places strong emphasis on facilitate attendance at its conferences to delegates from low resource countries through the provision of a number of scholarships each year. Attendance not only provides an memorable learning experience to the recipients but it also fosters invaluable networking and information sharing with other participants.
Main award
At least one main award is normally granted, consisting of:
- free registration to the conference
- refund (against receipts) of travel expenses, based on the cheapest economy itinerary
- subsistence allowance to cover 4 nights board and lodging.
Other awards
A number of smaller bursaries are also usually awarded, covering:
- free conference registration
- a subsistence allowance to cover 4 nights board and lodging.
Additional support n addition, all scholarship recipients will be invited to present a write-up in English of their conference presentation, of not less than 1000 words, to be considered for publication in the International Journal of Infection Control (www.ijic.info). If deemed acceptable, an additional award will be made once the paper has been published in the journal.
Requirements
Applicants must be active in the practice of infection control. Preference will be given to participants living in countries with limited resources, particularly in the case of delegates from members societies affiliated with IFIC.
Two types of submissions are accepted:
Research paper: describing a study on a specific aspect of infection prevention and control.
“How we did it”: providing a more descriptive account of how infection control practitioners or teams tackled a specific challenge or brought improvement in healthcare associated infections within their institution or country.
In the past years, 8 to 12 scholarships have been awarded per conference. These have included infection control professionals from all over the globe including Eastern Europe, South & Central America, Africa and Asia. |
