Gertie van Knippenberg-Gordebeke has worked as an Infection Control Nurse in the Netherlands since 1978.  Gertie is currently working as an international consultant. Her specialities are Handhygiene, Basic Precautions, Preventing Blood Borne (viral) Infections in Healthcare and Cleaning and Disinfection.

Since 1978 she has been an active member of the Dutch Association of Infection Control Practitioners (VHIG), eight years as chair of the annual conference committee and five years as the delegate for IFIC (The International Federation of Infection Control) societies.

The practical side of her teaching duties appeals greatly to Gertie; for example running workshops and giving lectures with practical use. She likes to travel and visit colleagues, to share skills, knowledge and experience. She is known for her enthusiasm, creativity and her pleasant and lively disposition.

She is the editor in chief of the International Journal of Infection Control which serves thousands of readers with all the news from members to members and much more.
